Congratulations on your baby bump!! Pregnancy is such an incredibly joyful and exciting time in your life...the changes that take place in your body are truly amazing. Maternity photography captures the expectation of the growing life within so that this time can be cherished forever.
It is advisable to schedule your session for maternity portraits to take place in your third trimester, between 30-35 weeks to show the fullness and beauty of a woman's body as she is nearing the end of her pregnancy. My portrait sessions are done in my home studio or at a location that is special to you. For maternity photography, anything goes! Clients prefer to be photographed fully clothed, to tastefully nude, and everything in between. Some customers wear open button-down shirts, a pair of jeans and a tank top, a robe, or a special dress. Some clients even have used several different types and lengths of fabric, which can be used to wrap around a client, goddess-style. I also have lots of clients ask me where I get the gorgeous maternity gown used in my images, well lucky my mom makes them!! She owns a boutique and you have the option to either rent one and/or they are also available for purchase. Please contact me for more details. If your not sure exactly what kind of photos you want taken i will be more than happy to help you select what location, wardrobe, poses etc...
Congratulations on your bundle of joy! This session can be done at your home, outdoors, or in my home studio. Thank you so much for letting me capture this beautiful moment in your life!
I prefer the house to be at a warm temperature due to the baby being undressed for most of the session. Also its better to use a room In your house that has good window lighting. If you have any questions about this I will be happy to tour your home and find the room with the best lighting for shooting. As a new mom I know it's hard to keep the house completely clean, please don't feel as though you need to pick up for me at all! If things need to be re-arranged or moved aside we can easily do this.
Before the photo-shoot please feed the baby 2-3 hours prior, and plan on feeding him/her as soon as you arrive. Also please do not let him/her sleep beforehand. This will ensure those beautiful sleeping pictures.
Sessions will last longer than normal sessions due to feeding, burping, putting the baby to sleep, etc...
All other sessions
It's very important to look your best in pictures. After all you will have these pictures forever. So make sure you dress your best and make-up is done. Keep make up natural, but still have some on. You will want to avoid using very heavy makeup, but a bit of color on your lips (depending on the session), eyes, and cheeks will help bring you to life in photos. Be sure to bring some lip gloss with you as well.
I know a couple hair stylist and make up artist so if you need there information I will be more than happy to give it to you.
Frequently asked questions:
Q: What should I/we wear?
Now this doesn’t mean everyone has to 100% match with khaki pants or jeans and a white shirt! You want to complement each other’s outfits by choosing colors that work well together. I find that if everyone is wearing the same clothing, people will all tend to blend in together and there won’t be too much pop and life to the images.
Use colors & patterns........
Colors are everywhere around us and bring things to life… why not bring your images to life as well! Again, be sure the colors you use coordinate with each other and you don’t just end up looking like one big rainbow family! When picking patterns, choose smaller ones that won’t distract attention away from the main subject/s. Use patterns sparingly…. if one person is wearing a print, try to avoid putting someone else in a competing pattern. When thinking about texture, choose different ones that will give photos some interest such as lace, corduroy, denim, etc. Avoid large logo’s, emblems and graphics like “GAP” and “Old Navy” because again, these will typically distract attention away from the subject. We want your faces and emotion to show, not promote the clothing company you purchased from.
For some fashionista’s, this may be a difficult concept, however you are going to want these images to stand the test of time. Pick outfits that aren’t t considered too trendy, but will be able to be enjoyed and displayed for many years to come. One example of something that is timeless is jeans… classic look and style yet you can still incorporate your own flair into the outfit with your tops and accessories. Still be YOU, never forget that!
Dress for the season & location........
Obviously you want your images to make sense. One typically wouldn’t be wearing jeans, boots, and a jacket to the beach in the Summer so why would you for pictures? Dress the part and be aware of your location. For example, if you are shooting at the beach, ladies wear a pretty dress and sandals, put dad in a short sleeve shirt and shorts OR pants (which you can also roll up), put your little girl in a sweet Spring or Summer dress, etc. You will want to make sure that everyone is on the same page and coordinates in both colors and styles.
Q: where should I do my photo shoot
I have a couple locations i can tell you about Depending on the time and weather. You can also choose a location if you would like. I can travel to your house depending on the type of session it is. For Sessions over a 20 mile radius of west Bradenton Florida travel rates apply.
